Azure Engineer

Publication date: 05/02/2026

As an Azure Engineer at NewOrbit, you will play a vital role in helping our clients optimise, secure, and evolve their Azure cloud infrastructure. You will conduct technical reviews across cost, security, architecture, and resilience, providing actionable recommendations that deliver real business value

This is a client-facing consultancy role combined with internal infrastructure responsibilities. You will work directly with clients to assess their Azure environments, identify opportunities for improvement, and help implement solutions. You will also support NewOrbit's internal Azure infrastructure and CI/CD pipelines

You will have a solid background in Microsoft Azure, cloud infrastructure, and a consultative approach to problem-solving, with the ability to communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences

About Us

NewOrbit is a successful, innovative business that has been delivering software for more than 15 years. We are a skilled and close-knit team, who work together to deliver entirely bespoke, highly scalable, cloud-hosted web applications for our clients. We collaborate with a wide variety of clients, which means you gain exposure to lots of different industries - and challenges to solve.

We host everything on Azure using a wide range of the available technologies. We're a Microsoft CSP and Solution Partner, working very closely with Microsoft, including on new Azure technologies, often before they are released to the public.

Our values are:

  • Do, Learn, Improve - We embrace innovation and continuous advancement
  • Take Ownership - We demonstrate responsibility and follow through on commitments
  • Show Integrity - We do what is morally right, technically sound, and commercially sensible

About you

We are looking for an Azure professional with solid experience in cloud infrastructure, ideally within a client-facing environment.

  • Ability to analyse Azure environments and identify cost optimisation opportunities, including right-sizing, reserved instances, and PaaS migration options.
  • Ability to assess security posture of Azure deployments, covering encryption, network isolation, identity management, monitoring and compliance requirements.
  • Ability to evaluate system architecture and recommend improvements for scalability, performance and resilience.
  • Ability to design and implement CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions or similar tools.
  • Ability to communicate technical findings and recommendations clearly to both technical teams and business stakeholders.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a methodical approach to analysing complex systems.
  • You should be able to manage your own time and priorities and communicate effectively with your colleagues and clients.
  • You should be willing to travel occasionally for client meetings.

Overview of Responsibilities

Client Reviews and Consultancy

  • Cost Reviews - Analyse client Azure spend, examine resource utilisation, identify savings opportunities through right-sizing, scaling strategies, reserved instances, and architecture optimisation. Produce detailed reports with prioritised recommendations.

  • Security Reviews - Evaluate security posture including encryption, network isolation, authentication mechanisms, monitoring and alerting, CI/CD pipeline security and compliance requirements (GDPR, contractual obligations).
  • Resilience Reviews - Assess business continuity requirements, evaluate current failover mechanisms, deploy strategies, and monitoring capabilities. Suggest improvements to meet resilience objectives.
  • Migration Support - Assist clients migrating to and within Azure, including lift-and-shift VM deployments and transitions to PaaS services.

Infrastructure and DevOps

  • Azure Pipelines/GitHub Actions Setup - Design and implement CI/CD pipelines for clients, including build automation, multi-environment deployments, approval gates, and automated testing integration.
  • Internal Infrastructure - Support and maintain NewOrbit's internal Azure infrastructure, implementing best practices and keeping systems secure and cost-effective.

Technical Expertise

  • Stay current with Azure services and capabilities, particularly around:
    • Virtual Machines, App Services and Functions

    • Networking (Virtual Networks, Private Endpoints, VPN Gateways, Firewalls)
